ARTIST STATEMENT

My practice lies in the gap between what is and what is not. It exists within some frame of time, though that frame is undefined: caught somewhere between then and now, neither to be occupied concretely. Memory may be implicitly imbedded into an artwork by cues given explicitly through material triggers. Such artifacts act as a substrate for memories to be interwoven into them, to be lended to viewers and passersby.

Sound acts as a vagrant body capable of defining space or place, it itself a vessel for memory. Though an uncontainable, non-visible phenomena, when embraced by a space, may delineate and specify place. Sound functions as the metaphysical scaffolding to bridge notions of space and time between visible media. As the photograph depicts, the sculpture embodies, and sound beckons.

My work is intrinsically but not apparently autobiographical: enclosing some experience within itself, an experience that is to be bestowed onto the viewer, an experience to be recycled and reformed as an artifact that resides in the minds of the passersby. It is at this point in which my work surrenders that which it had temporarily claimed before. Passed on to its spectators are the memories it momentarily held—and yet will continue to hold, and the experiences it was once given—but will still possess.
